StoryForge Video captured the 2022 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree journey as it moved from North Carolina to Washington, D.C., providing full production coverage across Direction, Production, and Post-Production.
The project followed a 78-foot red spruce nicknamed “Ruby” as it traveled through tight mountain roads, winding stretches of the Blue Ridge Parkway, interstate highways, and community celebration stops—transforming a complex logistics operation into a fast-moving, cinematic documentary experience built for social storytelling.
The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree is an annual national tradition led by the USDA Forest Service, which selects a “People’s Tree” from a national forest each year in partnership with organizations including the National Park Service and regional partners. The 2022 tree was harvested from the Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina and began a multi-week journey to Washington, D.C., supported by coordinated public events and community engagement along the route.
Hardy Brothers Trucking, a North Carolina-based family carrier selected through the program’s partner network, was tasked with safely transporting the tree across state lines as the official hauler of the national tour. The assignment placed the truck at the center of a high-visibility public tradition requiring precision driving, planning, and coordination across federal agencies, local communities, and event organizers.
Production followed the convoy in real time from forest pickup in western North Carolina through Blue Ridge Parkway mountain passes and into long interstate runs, capturing both the precision of transport logistics and the scale of public-facing stops along the route. Coverage was built for constant motion, requiring multiple camera operators, drone pilots, ACs, and field support teams working in sync with the moving convoy.
As the journey reached Washington, D.C., production shifted into capturing the ceremonial arrival on Capitol grounds, documenting the transition from cross-country transport operation to national holiday installation and lighting events.
Post-production shaped the footage into a high-energy narrative focused on movement, terrain, and progression—balancing sweeping landscapes, tight mountain driving, and community moments along the route.
The project was awarded a Gold Telly Award, recognizing the strength of execution and storytelling under complex, real-world production conditions.
The final result is a cinematic set of social media videos capturing a national tradition in motion—delivering Christmas cheer from the forests and mountain roads of North Carolina to the heart of Washington, D.C.
